Why you need good summer workwear

Even though we might like the passing of the cold days, the sun holds many dangers for someone who is required to work in its heat for hours on end. UV radiation is a serious hazard everyone should be taking into account, especially workers who are in the sun all day. The clothing you wear can help protect you from sun and heat damage if it’s up to par with sun protective standards.

The heat can also affect your ability to perform. Excessive heat can cause your ability to concentrate, your strength and your energy levels to drop.

What to look out for

Look out for cooling fabrics or mesh designs - clothing with UPF and moisture-wicking technology. These will help you keep your body cool and protected from radiation damage. Don’t forget high-visibility features if that’s what your line of work requires, though.

Furthermore, pay attention to the elasticity of the fabrics you’re wearing. Feeling comfortable in your workwear is important because you’ll be more likely to wear it properly and, if you aren’t fussing with your clothing all day, you can focus on your job.

That being said, the fabric also has to be strong. Your clothing is put to the test constantly because of all the movement, rubbing and coming into contact with all sorts of substances. Extra sun protection

Don’t forget to protect yourself from the sun as thoroughly as possible: wear sunblock of at least SPF 30 at all times (reapply every two hours!), protect your head by wearing hats and attempt to cover your eyes with sunglasses or sun shields. In addition to that, don’t forget to take enough breaks and spend those in the shade. Whenever you have the opportunity to get out of the sun, do so without hesitation.
